How a Career Coach helps you master the soft skills you need to grow professionally

< Back to Blog

Career coaches are experts in career planning, resume building, and interviewing. They assist job seekers in honing their skills whilst helping them find a job or a career path that fits their profile, and most importantly, where they feel fulfilled.
The job market is constantly evolving and is an increasingly challenging and demanding environment. Thus, there is a need for people capable of adapting and surpassing expectations. At ITUp, we work closely with our trainees to help them individualize their career path and master the challenges of the job market. And although sometimes the path is arduous, in the end, the bitterness becomes sweet.

The journey during the boot camp

During the training boot camp, trainees move through different phases. With a short duration of 12 weeks, the boot camp can only be intense.

Throughout the first few weeks is where all the new content emerges. Trainees get exposed to such a high volume of information in such a short period and without breaks that they need to quickly adapt and format their way of thinking.

Consequently, many doubts arise: “Will I be able to complete all tasks on time?”; “Am I good enough?”; “Am I competent?”; “Will I be able to finish the training boot camp?”; …

During this period, there are some phases of frustration, demotivation, and stress. Therefore, our team of career coaches works with trainees to help them manage emotions, deal with frustration and anxiety while teaching techniques to improve time management. Most of the time, they simply need positive encouragement to boost their confidence.

Like Dalai Lama said: “Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

The continuous contact with the trainees promotes a good and trustworthy relationship, which becomes a facilitator in this process. We want them to evolve and work hard to increasingly do better, but we also want them to feel at home, to feel that they have a safe haven.

In our boot camp, we also provide soft skills sessions covering topics such as communication, customer orientation, leadership, among others. These sessions support the trainees personally and professionally by sharpening their ability to cope in any given situation. Be it a customer meeting, a project presentation, or a job interview.

When approaching the boot camp final stages, we begin preparing trainees for the job interviews. How does this work?

We schedule mock interviews to work with them on different scenarios, focusing on several aspects: how to communicate and the best way to do it, good posture, positive attitude, stress management, expectations management, and other relevant points for growth and improvement.

The future depends on what you do today.

~ Mahatma Gandhi

What happens after the boot camp?

After the immeasurable happiness and full realization of having completed the boot camp, the new challenge follows: finding their dream job! Hence, job hunting begins, and we accompany our trainees every step of the way.

Job interviews are a significant source of stress. Trainees want to leave a good impression and get the job. However, modesty aside, our trainees are always prepared. As we like to tell them, “prepare for the worst, expect the best.”

Once they find a job, a new phase begins. We continue to assist our trainees, now alumni, in anything they need by keeping in touch and meeting regularly.

In parallel with this monitoring, we always encourage and support them to find ways to accomplish their goals and shape the career paths they want to follow. Still, always being honest with them and managing their expectations.

Throughout this entire journey and for their lives, we hope our trainees follow what Albert Einstein said, “try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.”

Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.

~ Albert Einstein

It is a long walk for all of us, but it is definitely an enriching one. And it is extremely gratifying to see the trainees arrive full of doubts and uncertainties and leave full of accomplishments and certainties.
